‘Do Not Blame Tinubu, He Didn’t Create The Problem Nigeria Is Facing’

Gov. Umo Eno: Tinubu Deserves Support, Not Blame, for Nigeria’s Woes

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has called for greater public support for President Bola Tinubu, arguing that Nigeria’s current challenges predate the administration and require collective effort to resolve.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Governor Eno praised Tinubu’s early efforts to steer the country out of economic and security difficulties.

“The President inherited a nation in crisis,” Eno said. “He didn’t create these problems, but he’s confronting them, and I believe he deserves our support.”

His comments follow growing public concern over inflation, subsidy removals, naira devaluation, and rising insecurity. While some critics blame Tinubu for worsening conditions, Eno urged Nigerians to view reforms in a broader context, stressing that meaningful change often begins with tough decisions.

“These reforms may be unpopular now, but they’re necessary for long-term stability,” he said. “The first two years have been remarkable, considering the circumstances.”

Turning to developments in Akwa Ibom, Eno outlined key achievements in education, healthcare, road construction, and market revitalisation.

“Our government has focused on uplifting the grassroots. From schools to hospitals and rural roads, we are delivering results,” he said.

He also revealed plans to boost tourism and launch major infrastructure projects.

“Akwa Ibom is on its way to becoming a leading tourist destination,” the governor added.

On youth empowerment, Eno highlighted initiatives supporting skills training and small businesses, describing them as steps toward rebuilding a sustainable middle class.

“We are equipping our young people to thrive. That’s how we build a future,” he stated.

The governor credited the state’s progress to a legacy of strong leadership, referencing former governors Victor Attah, Godswill Akpabio, and Udom Emmanuel.

“Each administration has built on the work of its predecessor. We’re lucky to have had visionary leaders,” Eno concluded.

His remarks echo a growing call from some quarters to give the Tinubu administration time and support to implement its long-term recovery agenda.
