Social Media User Faces Backlash Over Alleged Fake Network During Kidney Donation Verification

A Nigerian social media user, known as @barbiecuefish, is facing heavy criticism after allegedly faking a network issue during a verification call regarding a ₦10 million kidney transplant fundraiser for her sister.

According to a post by X user @Hybrid_Ola, the incident occurred during a video/audio call organized to verify the legitimacy of the medical appeal. The call, meant to confirm the name of the hospital where the alleged treatment was taking place, took a suspicious turn when @barbiecuefish appeared to feign poor network connectivity.

Eyewitnesses claimed she kept repeating:
“Hello? Hello? You dey hear me? Abi the phone don off again?”
before abruptly ending the call.

This comes after @barbiecuefish had shared an emotional appeal online, which reportedly raised over ₦3.5 million in public donations.

As of press time, she has not presented any medical documents, hospital details, or proof of treatment, fueling speculation that the appeal may have been deceptive.

Many Nigerians on X are now calling for:

  • A refund to donors

  • Law enforcement involvement

  • An official statement or apology

Some users have tagged digital fraud agencies and the police to investigate the matter.

This incident highlights growing concerns about online crowdfunding in Nigeria and the need for transparency before seeking public support.

Story developing.
