BREAKING: Judicial Workers Suspend Nationwide Strike
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike, which commenced on Monday, June 3, following a high-level meeting with key stakeholders, including representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The decision was announced in a communiqué released after an extensive deliberation with officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other concerned parties.
According to the communiquĂ©, JUSUN agreed to put the strike on hold for one month in response to the intervention of the CJN and other stakeholders. The window is intended to allow the Federal Government time to address the unionâs demands.
âJUSUN agrees to oblige the intervention of the CJN, Minister of Labour and Employment, NLC, and other stakeholders and allow one month for negotiations,â the union stated.
Among the unionâs demands are:

Implementation of the âŠ70,000 new minimum wage

Payment of accrued salary arrears

Implementation of the 25/35 per cent salary increase

Settlement of five monthsâ wage award arrears
The Federal Government is expected to release the necessary funds to the judiciary within the agreed timeframe. JUSUN emphasized that its demands must be implemented immediately upon disbursement of the funds.
JUSUN directed all its members nationwide to resume work on Wednesday, June 5, 2025.
The union also expressed optimism that all commitments made during the negotiations would be fulfilled to prevent further disruptions in the countryâs judicial system.
