Veteran Actress Tola Oladokun Reveals Why She Only Accepts Motherly Roles in Nollywood
Veteran Nollywood actress, Tola Oladokun, has revealed why she consistently plays the role of a mother in Nigerian films, shedding light on how her personal values, family background, and husband’s influence shaped her acting career.
In a candid interview with Oyinmomo TV, the respected Yoruba actress explained that she has deliberately avoided roles involving romance or witchcraft, citing her family’s teachings and her husband’s firm stance as major factors.
“I’m not called for such [romantic] roles. I’m called only for mother roles. Maybe because I have been called twice for such roles and I rejected them. Probably that is the reason. So when featuring me, they give me the role of a mother. I don’t romance or do movies involving witchcraft,” she stated.
Family Values and Professional Boundaries
Tola further explained that her late father gave her clear advice before she fully ventured into acting:
“When I told my father about my love for this profession, he said, I shouldn’t do what I can’t handle.”
This advice, combined with her husband’s beliefs, helped set the boundaries for the types of roles she accepts. Over the years, she has become beloved for her emotional depth, nurturing demeanor, and compelling performances as a mother, especially in Yoruba-language films.
A Career Built on Discipline and Respect
With decades in the movie industry, Tola Oladokun has carved out a niche for herself, earning the admiration of fans and colleagues alike for her integrity and commitment to culture and morality.
Her decision to avoid roles that conflict with her personal convictions shows that in Nollywood, actors can still thrive without compromising their beliefs.
