“Pastor Paul Enenche No Longer Picks My Calls”: Policewoman Vera Anyim Speaks Out After Demotion
Vera Anyim, a police officer from Ebonyi State, has come forward with emotional claims that she was abandoned by Pastor Paul Enenche, senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, after she was allegedly demoted in the Nigerian Police Force following a public testimony in his church.
From Inspiration to Controversy
The controversy began in April 2024 when Vera Anyim took the stage at Dunamis Headquarters in Abuja to celebrate her academic success. She had just earned a Law degree (LLB) from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)—a major milestone as the first in her family to achieve such a feat.
However, during her testimony, Anyim mistakenly referred to her qualification as a “BSc in Law.” Pastor Enenche stopped her mid-speech, questioned the legitimacy of her testimony, and challenged her command of English—suggesting she wasn’t a true law graduate. He then asked her to step down from the altar, warning against giving false testimonies.
The moment was captured on video and widely shared online, sparking national outrage. Many Nigerians demanded an apology, especially after evidence emerged confirming Anyim’s LLB, including her name on the 2024 NOUN convocation list.
Aftermath: A Demotion and Silence
Although Pastor Enenche later issued an apology through his assistant, Sylvester Edoh, and met with Anyim alongside his wife, Dr. Becky Enenche, the police officer now says the apology was superficial.
“Pastor Paul Enenche no longer picks my calls,” Vera lamented in a recent interview. “The embarrassment brought pain and shame to me. I was demoted from Inspector to Sergeant. He didn’t offer me any support, not even financial help.”
Photos of Anyim in uniform, including a viral image with late Nollywood actor Mr. Ibu (John Okafor), confirmed her previous rank as Inspector. However, the Nigerian Police Force has not officially confirmed the demotion, and as of now, her current rank status remains unverified.
Nigerians React: Should the Pastor Do More?
The renewed attention has rekindled debate across social media. While some argue that Pastor Enenche owes Vera greater support after a mistake that affected her life and career, others insist the matter lies within the internal affairs of the Nigerian Police Force.
“The church must show compassion, not just apologize and move on,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Why would a testimony result in demotion? If true, that’s tragic,” another commented.
Vera’s Future and the Larger Questions
Vera Anyim says her faith remains strong despite her ordeal. Still, she calls on religious leaders and institutions to treat members with care and humility—especially those who come forward with testimonies of hope and progress.
Her story raises broader questions about how religious leaders handle public interactions, especially in the digital age where reputations can be damaged in moments.
