Tottenham Hotspur Seal Permanent Signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for £29.8m
Tottenham Hotspur have officially completed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for a fee of £29.8 million, following his successful half-season loan at the North London club.
The 20-year-old France U21 international has signed a six-year contract running until June 2031, becoming the first major signing under newly appointed manager Thomas Frank, who sanctioned the deal after taking over from Ange Postecoglou.
Tel initially joined Spurs on loan in January 2025 for a fee of £7.3 million, scoring three goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Tottenham’s disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League, their Europa League final victory over Manchester United secured an unexpected Champions League spot for next season—a decisive factor in convincing Tel to remain at the club permanently.
After a challenging stint at Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany, where he made only eight Bundesliga appearances last season, Tel found renewed confidence and playing time at Tottenham.
Currently starring for France U21 at the European Championship, Tel scored from the penalty spot in their 3-2 opening win over Georgia.
