Pastor Paul Adefarasin Granted Bail After Police Probe Over Viral Stun Gun Incident

Founder of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has been granted bail by the Lagos State Police Command following a viral controversy involving a gun-like object he was seen holding in a trending video.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the popular pastor voluntarily appeared at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for questioning.

During the interrogation, the object in question was recovered and officially identified as a prohibited anti-riot stun gun—not a firearm, as initially feared.

“The object recovered was a stun gun, which is classified as prohibited under Nigerian law,” Hundeyin stated. “Investigations are ongoing, and we maintain that no one is above the law.”

The viral video, which sparked outrage on social media last week, showed Pastor Adefarasin stepping out of a black vehicle and seemingly pointing the device at a man believed to be recording the scene. The footage triggered calls for immediate police action.

Addressing the controversy during his Sunday sermon, Adefarasin denied any wrongdoing and claimed the video lacked proper context.

“I did not point a gun at anyone,” he told his congregation. “It was not a gun, and the situation was not as painted. People love drama, but we must stay calm and let the truth unfold.”

Despite his clarification, the police reiterated that civilian possession of stun guns is a violation of Nigerian law.

Pastor Adefarasin, also known for organizing The Experience—one of Africa’s largest gospel concerts—remains a well-known figure in Nigeria’s religious and social circles.

The Lagos Police Command assured the public that updates would be released as the investigation progresses.
