“I Didn’t Do It for Clout” – Kiddwaya Speaks on Benue Backlash, Says He Won’t Stop Helping

Reality TV star Kiddwaya has broken his silence after facing heavy criticism over his public appeal for donations to support victims of the recent Benue State attacks.

Earlier this week, the Big Brother Naija star shared a fundraiser launched by his Kiddwaya Foundation to assist displaced families affected by the tragic violence in Yelewata and Daudu, where over 200 people reportedly lost their lives between June 13 and 14.

But instead of praise, the post drew fierce backlash, with many questioning Kiddwaya’s intentions and calling him out for requesting funds while often flaunting a lavish lifestyle.

In a public statement released Thursday via social media, Kiddwaya addressed the criticism directly:

“I’ve seen the comments. I hear the backlash. I didn’t post about Benue for clout, I posted because I genuinely care. I am a Benue indigene and a proud Benue man.”

He explained that he deleted the donation post—not out of shame, but out of respect for public sentiment:

“What’s happening there breaks my heart. I took the donation post down because I saw the pain and misunderstanding it caused—not because I’m ashamed of helping, but because I respect your voices, even the angry ones.”

Kiddwaya’s post had been condemned by social media critics and online figures like VeryDarkMan, who argued that someone known for spending $30,000 on jollof rice and losing €70,000 in Ibiza should contribute more personally rather than asking for donations.

Despite the firestorm, Kiddwaya remains undeterred:

“I will not stop caring. I will not stop showing up when lives are on the line. Even if it’s not on social media. Even if it’s misunderstood.”

Born Terseer Waya, the BBNaija Lockdown edition alum has continued to court attention both for his flamboyant lifestyle and his philanthropic ambitions. But this moment, he says, is not about status or perception — it’s about doing what’s right.
