Massive Crowd Welcomes Victor Osimhen Back to Olusosun, Lagos After Stellar Season Abroad

By NewsVista Reporter | June 24, 2025

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen returned to a hero’s welcome in Olusosun, his childhood neighborhood in the Ojota area of Lagos State, on Monday, June 24. The spontaneous visit drew a massive crowd of fans, friends, and community members eager to reconnect with one of their own who has become a global football icon.

The 26-year-old forward, fresh off a successful season in Turkey with Galatasaray, made his first appearance in the community since returning to Nigeria for the off-season.

A Homecoming Filled with Emotion and Gratitude

According to observations by Newsvista.com.ng, Osimhen’s return triggered a wave of excitement across Olusosun. Children rushed out to greet him, chanting his name and waving makeshift placards, one of which read:

“Welcome back home, Victor Osimhen Big 9.”

Despite being flanked by security personnel, Osimhen smiled and waved, taking time to interact with fans and childhood friends. He was seen joking with a local trader and reminiscing with people who knew him before fame.

Humble Beginnings, Global Impact

Born in 1998 as the youngest of six children to Elder Patrick and Mrs. Christianah Osimhen, Victor grew up in the tough but vibrant streets of Olusosun. His rise began after winning the Golden Boot at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, scoring 10 goals under coach Manu Garba.

From there, he earned a move to VfL Wolfsburg, and later played for Charleroi, Lille, and Napoli, before his recent successful stint in Turkey where he led Galatasaray to a domestic double, ending a 25-year wait.

Osimhen also inspired Nigeria’s first victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, netting a brace against Rwanda.

Fans Celebrate His Loyalty to the Streets

His visit to Olusosun sparked admiration from fans, with many praising him for remembering his roots.

  • “Never forget the root. The foundation is always acknowledged. Victor Osimhen forever grateful,” @tjossignature posted.

  • “Always making out time for his people,” added @kelechiafc.

  • “Street love is massive. Thanks for always coming home despite everything,” @obasa123 wrote.

Others offered prayers and blessings:

  • “Jah bless your kind heart. Keep rising,” said @iam_yq.

  • “Wa dagba, wa dogbo… in Jesus name,” comedian @gbengaadeyinka1stgcon posted in Yoruba.

Amid Cheers, Controversy Lingers

However, not everyone is applauding. In a separate development, Legit.ng reported that a man identified as Omuyiwa John, who claims to be a relative of Osimhen’s father, accused the footballer of neglecting his extended family. According to him, Osimhen has allegedly distanced himself since finding fame.

Despite the criticism, Osimhen remains focused on his football and community. His gesture of returning to Olusosun — with no press conference, no official event — simply to reconnect with the place that raised him, speaks volumes.
