Tragedy Strikes: Policeman’s Daughter Identified as Crew Member Killed in Air India Crash, Family in Mourning
A young Air India crew member, Manisha Thapa, has been confirmed among the 241 victims of the devastating plane crash involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
According to reports monitored by Newsvista.com.ng, the ill-fated aircraft, which was bound for London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital in Ahmedabad and exploded into flames, leaving behind a trail of devastation. Only one person survived out of the 242 passengers and crew members on board.
A Promising Life Cut Short
Manisha Thapa, 27, was the daughter of police officer Raju Thapa, and was known for her intelligence, dedication, and warm personality. She had previously worked with IndiGo Airlines and Akasa Air, before joining Air India, where she served on international routes, including flights to London and Australia.
A graduate of St. Xavier’s College, Patna, Manisha earned her degree in Business Economics between 2014 and 2017. She began her aviation career as a ground staff member and rose through the ranks with hard work and enthusiasm.
“One of Manisha’s friends informed us about the crash around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday,” her uncle Guddu Patha told local media. “Her parents have traveled to Ahmedabad for a DNA test to identify her remains. Manisha was bright, cultured, and sociable. We are shattered.”
Remembering Manisha
Tributes have poured in across social media for the young woman whose charm and energy left a mark on many. A former classmate, Mohit Manna, posted a heartfelt tribute on X:
“Lost my friend Manisha Thapa in the plane crash today. Her smile, charm and energy were so elegant. She helped me with so many events and never lost her composure. I can’t recall her ever being angry or rude. The world has lost a gem. RIP, Manisha.”
Air India Responds, Compensation Plans Underway
Meanwhile, Newsvista gathered that Air India’s management has announced compensation for the families of the victims, although full details are still being processed. The airline also expressed condolences and pledged support for those affected.
Teen Victim Identified in Crash Impact Zone
In a related tragedy, a teenage boy named Akash Patni, who had been resting near his family’s roadside tea stall, was killed when the aircraft crashed into the building. His mother, Sita, survived the impact but is currently in ICU, unaware that her son died just meters away.
The crash has left multiple families grieving in Ahmedabad and beyond, as the full extent of the tragedy continues to unfold.
