Breaking: Governor Yusuf ‘Devastated’ as Two Kano Youths Are Murdered in Cold Blood in Benue
A wave of sorrow swept through Kano State as its governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, reacted to the shocking killing of two young indigenes—Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad—in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to a NewsVista reporter, the victims were attacked late Monday night, June 23, by unidentified assailants in what has been described as a brutal and unprovoked assault. The incident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m., has left families, friends, and the Kano State government in mourning.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, June 24, Governor Yusuf did not hold back his emotions. He condemned the killings in the strongest terms, calling the act “barbaric, senseless, and totally unacceptable.”
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we mourn the tragic deaths of two promising sons of our dear state,” the governor said. “They were innocent, peace-loving Nigerians whose only ‘offense’ was daring to live and work in another part of their own country.”
The grieving governor vowed that his administration will not rest until those responsible are found and prosecuted. He further revealed plans to lead a high-level delegation, along with the victims’ families, to attend the funeral prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the pain was not just personal to the families but a deep wound to Kano State and the Nigerian nation as a whole.
“This government is committed to ensuring justice,” he added. “We are working closely with security agencies and the Benue State government to track down the perpetrators and bring them to book.”
As the news continues to stir tension, the governor appealed for calm among Kano residents, urging them to remain peaceful while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, a NewsVista investigation notes that Benue State has witnessed escalating violence in recent months. Over 160 lives have been lost in a series of attacks, severely impacting food production in one of Nigeria’s key agricultural regions.
The Kano government concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to the safety and welfare of all its citizens across Nigeria, promising to stand by the bereaved families until justice is fully served.
