“I Made a Mistake, Please Forgive Me” — Actress Bukky Raji Tearfully Apologizes for Supporting Tinubu
In an emotionally charged revelation, popular Nollywood actress Bukky Raji, widely known as Aminatu Papapa, has publicly expressed deep regret for her support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
According to a NewsVista report, the Yoruba film star made the candid confession during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, admitting that her political stance was rooted in misplaced hope and business desperation—not personal gain.
“I regret supporting Tinubu,” she said through tears. “I thought I was making the right choice, but now I see it differently. Please, don’t be angry with me.”
“I Thought Things Would Get Better”
Raji, who also runs a rice distribution business, explained that her decision to back Tinubu was influenced by the economic hardships her business faced after the 2019 border closure during Buhari’s administration. She believed Tinubu, as a fellow southerner, would reopen trade routes and ease business conditions.
“I started with 20 bags of rice and built my way up to trailers,” she said. “When they said ‘Renewed Hope,’ I believed it. But now? We’re all suffering—both supporters and critics alike.”
“I Was Never Paid a Kobo”
Addressing rumors that she received financial compensation for her campaign support, Raji firmly denied being paid.
“I can boldly say I didn’t collect a dime,” she said. “Yes, they promised us money, but greed and disunity among ourselves ruined everything. I didn’t benefit.”
She admitted that some of her colleagues may have accepted money, but emphasized that she personally supported Tinubu based on his past achievements in Lagos and campaign promises that painted a hopeful future.
Reflecting, Not Reacting
Raji insisted her apology wasn’t triggered by online trolls or public backlash but by a period of quiet reflection on Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions.
“It’s not because people bashed me online—it’s because I sat down and realized I made a mistake,” she confessed. “And now I’m asking Nigerians, from the depth of my heart, please forgive me.”
Feud With Adunni Ade Resurfaces
Following the 2023 elections, Raji had clashed with fellow actress Adunni Ade, who publicly criticized celebrities for allegedly supporting candidates for as little as ₦90,000. Raji, at the time, fired back in defense, claiming their support stemmed from loyalty, not cash.
“Did they tell you we supported Asiwaju because of money? It was love!” she had said in a now-viral video.
“Please, Don’t Be Angry With Me”
In her closing words, Bukky Raji dropped all defenses, speaking directly to the Nigerian public.
“Don’t be angry with me. I’ve offended you all. That’s the only regret I have in this life. We’re all feeling the pain now. Please, forgive me.”
Her tearful confession has since sparked conversation across social media, with some commending her honesty while others remain skeptical.
