“I knack 15-year-old girl, na crime? Where is the evidence?
Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has publicly fired back at the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) after the agency declared him wanted for alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
The development follows widespread outrage over a viral video in which the singer appeared to admit to sleeping with a 15-year-old girl, sparking demands for accountability.
“I’m Not Coming – I Did Nothing Wrong”
In a defiant video posted to Instagram on Monday, Speed Darlington insisted he would not honour NAPTIP’s invitation, stating:
“NAPTIP, pay attention. That ‘wanted’ post, take it down. I’m not coming. I’ve committed no crime. Irresponsible talk is not a crime. Where’s your evidence? Who filed a complaint?”
He further alleged that the agency was targeting him for clout:
“Una wan use me trend. ‘Oh look, we invited a celebrity and he came.’ I charge N2.5 million per appearance. So, unless you’re paying me plus round-trip tickets for me and my PA, don’t expect me.”
Denial and Threat of Legal Action
While the singer acknowledged making disturbing statements online, he claimed they were for attention and not based on real actions:
“You people are reacting because you were tagged. Now you want to look good in front of Nigerians. But where is the cyberstalking? Who did I stalk or mention?”
On the rape allegation stemming from his controversial video admission, he responded bluntly and dismissively:
“I knack 15-year-old girl, na crime? Where is the evidence? Remove my name from that list. I will sue you for defamation. You’re trying to destroy my name without proof.”
Public Backlash and Legal Implications
Speed Darlington’s statements have sparked widespread condemnation across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for his immediate arrest and prosecution. Legal experts have also weighed in, noting that self-incriminating comments made online can be grounds for investigation, especially when they involve minors.
As of the time of this report, NAPTIP has not issued a formal response to Speed Darlington’s video or threats of legal action.
What’s Next?
If NAPTIP proceeds with formal charges, Speed Darlington could face serious legal consequences, especially under Nigeria’s Child Rights Act and Cybercrime Act, both of which carry strict penalties for sexual offenses involving minors and for online harassment.
