Unknown Gunmen Attack Ebonyi Community Meeting in Anambra, 10 Killed, 9 Injured (Video)

In what can only be described as a night of terror, unknown gunmen opened fire at a peaceful community gathering in Ogboji, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, killing 10 people and leaving 9 others injured, according to a NewsVista reporter.

The attack occurred on Monday evening, June 30, during a monthly meeting of Ebonyi indigenes living in Anambra. Eyewitnesses say the gunmen arrived in two SUVs and demanded the meeting’s minutes book before suddenly spraying bullets at the unsuspecting attendees.

“It was a peaceful welfare meeting,” said Augustine Odom, chairman of the Ebonyi community in Ogboji. “Then chaos broke out. It was brutal.”

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the tragedy, stating that the bodies have been deposited in a morgue and security personnel have taken over the area. Investigations are ongoing.

The president of non-indigenes in Anambra, Chigozie Nweke, condemned the incident and urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies to act swiftly. “This tragedy has left our community devastated,” he said.

While some social media reports claim up to 13 deaths, police maintain the official figure is 10. The motive remains unknown, with theories ranging from internal rifts to enforcement of sit-at-home orders.

A disturbing video of the aftermath has gone viral, showing lifeless bodies scattered at the meeting venue — a sight that has plunged the Ebonyi diaspora into mourning.

NewsVista will continue to follow this developing story as more details emerge.
