Breaking: Tragedy as Jigawa LG Chairman Dies Outside State
According to a NewsVista reporter, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, chairman of Gumel Local Government Area in Jigawa State, has passed away at the age of 61 after a suspected heart attack.
The respected council leader reportedly fell ill on Friday, July 4, and was rushed to a hospital in Kano. Sadly, he passed away the following evening — Saturday, July 5 — while receiving treatment.
Sources close to the family revealed that the chairman had no known prolonged illness, suggesting the heart attack came suddenly.
Hon. Ya’u was a former civil society member and had served in various public capacities before being elected chairman in 2024. He is survived by two wives and several children.
His remains were laid to rest on the morning of Sunday, July 6, in the ancient city of Gumel, according to Islamic rites.
His death comes barely a month after the passing of former Kwara State Governor, Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, another notable loss in Nigeria’s political landscape.
