Tragedy as Uniport Student Allegedly Sets Lover Ablaze Over Pregnancy Dispute – Victim Dies from Injuries

According to a NewsVista reporter in Rivers State, tragedy struck in Choba, Port Harcourt, as a heated argument between lovers turned fatal. A 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Cynthia Chukwundah, has been arrested for allegedly setting her partner, Sunny Amadi, on fire during a domestic dispute.

The incident, which occurred on Okoro Street in the Obio/Akpor area, reportedly escalated due to a pregnancy-related issue. Amadi, 32, suffered severe burns and later died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

Police say Cynthia, who is reportedly pregnant with the victim’s child, also sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical care under tight police surveillance.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed that officers from the Choba Division arrived swiftly at the scene. She noted that the exact cause of the fire remains unclear and that a full investigation is ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has appealed to the public to stay calm and avoid spreading speculation, assuring that justice will be served.
