UTME 2025: New Twist as JAMB Alleges Foul Play in Result of Highest Scorer, Chinedu Okeke

According to NewsVista, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised serious concerns over the authenticity of the UTME result credited to Chinedu Christian Okeke, who was announced as the highest scorer in the 2025 exams.

Okeke, a native of Anambra State, had shocked many when he emerged with a score of 375. But JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed at a policy meeting in Abuja on July 8 that red flags have emerged surrounding his credentials.

Investigations by JAMB showed that Okeke is already a student of Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, admitted in 2024. The board reached out to the university, which confirmed his enrollment—raising questions about how he registered again in 2025 and applied for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.

“This violates the law,” JAMB’s spokesperson Fabian Benjamin said. “A student cannot matriculate twice. He appears to have taken the UTME as an undergraduate, giving him unfair advantage.”

Benjamin further revealed conflicting information in Okeke’s records, including discrepancies in state of origin—one entry listing Anambra and another Lagos.

“We suspect he may have acted as a mercenary in the examination,” Benjamin added, hinting at potential impersonation or fraud.

Despite the controversy, Okeke’s name still tops JAMB’s official 2025 list of high scorers. Here are the top five:

  1. Okeke Chinedu Christian – 375

  2. Ayuba Simon-Peter John – 374

  3. Abdulmalik Olayinka Jimoh – 373

  4. Roberts Ayibo Damiete – 373

  5. Ononugbo Chibueze Chigozirim – 373

Meanwhile, NewsVista also learned that JAMB has introduced a new ranking feature on result slips, allowing candidates to see their national standing. The policy aims to reduce misleading hype around raw scores and help institutions make better admission choices.

As investigations continue, Nigerians are watching closely to see whether Okeke will keep his spot—or face possible disqualification.
