Why Chelsea Players Could Be Banned From Champions League As New Trouble Emerges

According to a NewsVista reporter, Chelsea’s return to the UEFA Champions League might be short-lived if the club doesn’t act fast. Despite a successful season under new boss Enzo Maresca—securing 4th place in the Premier League and winning the UEFA Conference League—the Blues are now facing a fresh setback.

UEFA has slammed Chelsea with a massive £26.7 million fine for breaching financial sustainability rules, with the threat of it doubling to £51.2 million if violations continue. But the real sting isn’t just the money—it’s the immediate impact on their Champions League plans.

Reports indicate that Chelsea won’t be allowed to register new players on UEFA’s official ‘List A’ unless they offload some stars to balance the books. Players like Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Romeo Lavia may be blocked from featuring unless the club sells assets to generate at least £60 million.

UEFA’s policy treats previously injured or newly signed players as ‘new entries’—meaning they count towards the quota even if they were with the club last season. This complicates things further for Chelsea, who now must act fast to clear financial room before the new season begins.

In a separate incident, Chelsea was also fined £22,500—alongside Leicester City—after a pitch-side brawl marred the closing stages of the league season.

Chelsea’s Champions League dreams are back—but only if they can sell smart, spend less, and play by UEFA’s rules.
