This was during a recent meeting which was held at the White House in Washington DC, where the Liberian leader was in attendance to discuss issues of national relevance.
However, the pleasant surprise expressed by president Donald Trump generated massive reactions after the reports surfaced online, with the global communities sharing their thoughts.
Reacting, Senator Shehu Sani, a renowned human rights activist and former federal lawmaker in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, knocked president Trump for his ignorance about the African continent.
According to his statements, Liberia had the closet history among African countries to the United States.
He further pointed out that president Trump being surprised by the Liberian President’s spoken English was a classic example of disconnect and ignorance about Africa.
“Liberia has the closest affinity and history to the United States more than any country in Africa. Trump was surprised that it’s President speaks ‘good English’ and even asking him where he learned it from. That is classic example of disconnect and ignorance about our continent.” He wrote.
