Breaking: How Awujale of Ijebuland Was Buried Emerges

According to NewsVista reporters, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has been buried at his private residence in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in a ceremony that strictly followed age-old customs.

The revered monarch, who died at the age of 91, was laid to rest on Monday, July 14, in a private and traditional rite attended by royal family members, high-ranking chiefs, and a number of Nigeria’s most prominent figures.

Present at the burial were top dignitaries including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Gbenga Daniel, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, billionaire Aliko Dangote, and Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate.

Oba Adetona’s reign lasted over 60 years, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-serving monarchs. He was deeply respected for modernizing Ijebuland while staying rooted in Yoruba cultural values. Locals described him as principled, fearless, and a symbol of integrity.

Interestingly, the Awujale’s death occurred just hours after that of former President Muhammadu Buhari—his long-time ally. History recalls that Buhari, while serving as a military leader in 1983, played a key role in preventing Oba Adetona from being dethroned, after a civilian government had signed an order to remove him.

The monarch’s passing marks the end of a remarkable era in Ijebuland. As photos from the burial surfaced online, shared by aides and officials, heartfelt tributes continue to pour in from across NigGERIA.
