Breaking: Nigerian Governor Takes Decision on Suspension of 81 Aides

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state, has lifted the suspension of 81 government officials earlier sanctioned for failing to attend a key state function.

As reported by The Punch, the directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 5, by the governor’s chief press secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.

ā€œThe affected commissioners, Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), Special Assistants (SAs) and permanent secretaries are to resume official duties immediately,ā€ the statement read.

Reported that Nwifuru suspended the Attorney General, 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants on July 28.

The suspension is to last for one month without salary.

This action follows repeated warnings from Governor Nwifuru over what he described as the growing trend of absenteeism among government functionaries.

Gov Nwifuru gets 48hrs to sack SSG

Previously,Ā reported that a group representing Ebonyi indigenes in the diaspora called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to sack the secretary to the state government(SSG), Prof Grace Umezuruike.

In a statement sent toĀ on Tuesday, July 22, the group said it’s making the call following a court order for the interim forfeiture of over one billion naira allegedly diverted from public funds.

Nwifuru did N10k “give away” to each worker

In another development,Ā reported that Governor Nwifuru announced N10,000 to each of the workers in the southeast state.

The governor made the announcement at the celebration of the 2025 International Workers’ Day in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Thursday, May 1.

Governor Nwifuru subsequently described the workers as the engine room of his administration and promised to prioritise their welfare.

Ebonyi governor shares cash with 95 graduates

Earlier reported that Governor Francis Nwifuru had shared N105,000,000 start-up capital with 895 vocational training graduates in Ebonyi state.

According to the governor, each of the trainees under the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Empowerment Programme (FONEP) will receive ₦3 million each to begin their entrepreneurship journey.
