“Black Widow” Confesses: How I Married Old Men, Poisoned Them, and Inherited Their Wealth

For over two decades, she was a shadow moving through Iran—marrying, nursing, and burying her husbands. But behind the veil of care was a sinister plan.

According to Jerusalem Post (August 14, 2025), Kolsum Akbari, 56, has been dubbed Iran’s most feared “black widow” after she confessed to a chilling pattern:

“I married old men, gave them pills and alcohol, and watched them die slowly while I collected their money and property.”

22 Years of Death and Deception

Authorities say Akbari’s method was calculated. Her victims—often elderly, wealthy men battling long-term illnesses—were given sedatives, diabetic medication, blood pressure pills, and industrial alcohol in lethal doses.

When poisoning failed, she allegedly resorted to suffocation. The killings reportedly began in 2000 and continued until the death of 82-year-old Gholamreza Babaei in 2023.

Her ability to move between cities and target men already near death kept her crimes hidden for decades. Dowries, land deeds, and cash flowed into her hands, cloaked by funerals that seemed natural—until suspicion finally caught up.

The Investigation That Exposed Her

It wasn’t police genius that brought her down—it was a grieving son. Babaei’s child grew suspicious after hearing that a woman claiming to be Akbari’s “daughter” had nearly poisoned another elderly man.

That tip triggered a full investigation, unraveling a string of mysterious deaths tied to Akbari. During interrogation, she chillingly admitted:

“I don’t know how many I killed—maybe 13, maybe 15.”

Human rights groups have since raised concerns, suggesting her confession could have been extracted under torture or threats to her family.

Why Her Case Shook the Nation

Akbari’s trial has ignited fierce debates in Iran about justice, elder care, and the exploitation of the vulnerable. While some demand her swift execution, others question whether she’s the cold-blooded mastermind she appears to be—or a pawn in a darker political game.
