“Enough Is Enough, Leave Us Alone” – Foreigner Reacts After Durban Illegal Immigration March

Durban – Tensions surfaced in Durban today as civil society groups, including the March and March Movement, alongside several political parties, led a protest through the city’s central business district. Participants demanded stronger government action against rising crime and stricter enforcement of immigration laws, particularly regarding undocumented foreign nationals. The march attracted hundreds of people carrying placards and chanting as they moved through key streets under police supervision.

Organisers say the protest aims to pressure authorities to tighten border management and prioritise the safety of South African citizens. They argue that undocumented migration contributes to labour exploitation, job competition, and criminal networks operating in urban areas. “We are not saying every foreigner is a criminal, but communities are living in fear,” a spokesperson said.

However, the demonstration sparked a strong response online from foreign residents living in South Africa. A video circulating on social media shows one immigrant appealing to the public: “Enough is enough. We have been quiet for a long time. Leave us foreigners alone.” He added that many immigrants contribute positively to the economy and should not be unfairly targeted.

Human rights groups warned that protests targeting foreign nationals risk escalating xenophobic tensions. They called for constructive dialogue and solutions that balance public safety with the rights of residents and immigrants alike. Police confirmed the march ended without major incidents and said they would continue monitoring the area, while municipal authorities plan follow-up meetings with community stakeholders.
