Mother Of 3 Children Who Went To A Pharmacy To Buy Cough Syrup Has Not Returned Home
The Waterloo community in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, is gripped by fear and worry following the mysterious disappearance of 32-year-old mother of three, Noxolo Bridget Makhathini. She was last seen leaving her home to buy cough syrup for her sick daughter and never returned.
Described as a devoted mother and community caregiver, Makhathini’s sudden disappearance has left her family distraught. “We thought she would be back within the hour. She never came back. Her phone has been off ever since,” her sister tearfully shared.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), assisting in the search, reported that Makhathini was last seen in Verulam CBD wearing a short-sleeve purple dress. She is of average height, with light brown skin and short afro hair. Despite extensive searches by RUSA officers, volunteers, and community members, there has been no trace of her since leaving the pharmacy district.
“Our teams have been scouring bushy areas, taxi ranks, and routes between Waterloo and Verulam with no luck so far. She seemed to have simply vanished,” said RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram.
Residents have gathered nightly for prayer vigils outside her family home, expressing growing concern as cases of missing women in KwaZulu-Natal rise. Makhathini’s three children—a 15-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, and an 18-month-old toddler—are currently being cared for by relatives. “The youngest keeps asking where her mommy is. It breaks all our hearts,” a neighbour said.
