Life Sentence In KZN Pilot Murder As Judge Slams Gender-Based Violence And Demands Accountability

According to our report, Durban’s High Court sentenced 37-year-old Ndabenhle Majola to life in prison for the murder of 20-year-old trainee pilot Iman Tshakeni, alongside a ten-year sentence for rape. Iman’s mother, Asanda Tshakeni, described the devastating loss of her daughter, calling her “clever, brave, and full of dreams.” The court heard that Majola’s defense failed to justify his actions, and apologies from his family were deemed insufficient.

Acting Judge Brenda Sibiya used the ruling to issue a broader warning, declaring gender-based violence “the biggest pandemic since Covid-19” and demanding accountability. Majola is also barred from firearm ownership and will be listed on the sexual offences register.
