Ramaphosa Calls for Arrest and Deportation of Undocumented Foreign Nationals

Speaking in Parliament, he emphasized that securing South Africa’s borders is central to tackling illegal immigration.

Ramaphosa highlighted the Border Management Authority’s efforts, including 600 deployed officers and the use of drones, body cameras, and digital surveillance to curb unlawful entry. Over 51,000 undocumented migrants were reportedly deported last year.

While urging law enforcement action, the president warned against vigilantism, stressing that public attacks on migrants undermine the rule of law. He also noted diplomatic engagements with other nations and the rollout of the Electronic Travel Authorisation system, which uses facial recognition to streamline entry and prevent fraud.

Ramaphosa confirmed that intelligence-driven joint operations will continue to identify, arrest, and deport undocumented foreign nationals.
