Warriors continue AFCON preparations amid Musona and Munetsi injury setbacks

ZIMBABWE’S senor men’s national football team, the Warriors’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preparations have suffered setbacks following the injury of vice-captain Marshall Munetsi and Knowledge Musona.
Munetsi limped off the pitch on Wednesday in an English Premier Soccer League match when his side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, played Nottingham Forest.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder’s injury was confirmed by club head coach Rob Edwards during their pre-match press conference for their match against Manchester United on Monday evening.

Wolves further revealed that they will only be aware of Munetsi’s full fitness status on Monday after some routine check-ups.
Meanwhile, the Warriors have another injury scare as star forward Knowledge Musona suffered a hamstring injury during the Warriors’ camp on Saturday morning.
Musona is set to go for a medical assessment, which will determine the impact of his injury.
The Scotland FC player is one of the many local players who are in camp for the Warriors preparing for AFCON, and his experience will be needed by new coach Mario Marinica, who is leading the side.
Musona is one of the few players drafted into the squad by Marinica, who have played in Zimbabwe’s previous three AFCON outings in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
