Transport Minister Mhona on Gwanda-Maphisa inspection tour ahead of Uhuru commemorations

TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, conducted a site inspection of the ongoing Gwanda-Maphisa Road Rehabilitation Project this week to get a first-hand appreciation on the state of progress taking place.
The roadworks are part of a broader infrastructure boost in Matabeleland South Province, driven by Cabinet’s decision to host the 2026 Independence celebrations at Maphisa Open Grounds.
The Gwanda-Maphisa Road is a key transport link, connecting several districts and vital economic hubs, including the ARDA Antelope Estate, Makwe Irrigation Scheme, two border posts, and tourism hotspots in the Matobo Hills.

Mhona expressed his satisfaction with the progress, stressing the project’s role in improving national infrastructure and regional connectivity.
“This project exemplifies the engineering and construction strides of the Second Republic, advancing the sustainable development of our infrastructure,” he said.
“Aligned with President Mnangagwa’s vision for inclusive development, it will ensure no region is left behind.”
The minister urged contractors to maintain high standards of efficiency and quality as they work towards completing the project on time. The Ministry will continue monitoring the progress to guarantee success.
