“Why Smoking Cigarettes and Drinking Alcohol Are Not Sins” – Nigerian Pastor Abel Damina

Pastor Abel Damina, the respected founder of Power City International, has shared his perspective on why drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are not inherently sinful.

Speaking during the 2025 New Year’s Eve service, Pastor Damina addressed his congregation, stating, “You cannot be a sinner by eating and drinking. I’ve told you before, alcohol is not a sin.” He emphasized that his primary mission as a preacher is to teach salvation through faith in Christ, rather than focusing on societal moral codes.

“You didn’t come here for me to teach you morality; you came for me to teach you salvation by faith through Christ,” he explained.

While standing firm on his viewpoint, Pastor Damina didn’t shy away from addressing the consequences of certain habits. “If you smoke, it can harm your body. If you drink alcohol, you might end up in a gutter. These are lessons you should have learned at home,” he added, highlighting personal responsibility.
