Lizzy Jay: “Skit Making Started As A Cure for Boredom”

Popular Nigerian skit maker and Nollywood actress, Lizzy Jay, has opened up about the unexpected beginnings of her career in the entertainment industry.

In a recent interview on Nollywood On Radio, Lizzy revealed that skit-making wasn’t part of her original plan. According to her, she initially aspired to become a singer and even dreamed of pursuing a career in medicine.

“When I started making skits, I wasn’t trying to be a comedian,” she explained. “I wanted to be a musician, go to school, and eventually become a medical doctor.”

Lizzy said her foray into creating content was born out of boredom while home alone. Armed with just her phone, she started recording skits without any professional ambitions.

“It wasn’t something I planned or copied from anyone,” she said. “I was simply bored and decided to try something fun.”

Things took a surprising turn when one of her skits went viral. The video was picked up and reposted by several Nigerian celebrities, including veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. That moment, Lizzy said, changed everything.

“After that skit got shared by people like Omotola on Instagram, I realised I was onto something. That was the turning point — I knew I had to keep going,” she recalled.

Lizzy Jay, who first found fame as a comedic content creator on social media, has since successfully transitioned into Nollywood. She has featured in various films, including Dear Affy, Dubara, and The Order of Things.
