Speed Darlington Requests NAPTIP to Postpone Summons Over Viral Video Scandal

Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has formally requested that his scheduled meeting with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) be moved to June 26, 2025 following the backlash over a viral Instagram video.
The now-deleted video featured Speed Darlington claiming he was intimate with a 15-year-old girl, sparking outrage across social media and prompting a summons from NAPTIP.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the artist said the video was never meant to be taken seriously and apologized for any offence caused.
“The video was a joke that got blown out of proportion,” he wrote.
“I have never engaged in any form of sexual predation or misconduct.”
He emphasized that the content was purely for entertainment and not based on real events.
Speed Apologizes, Denies All Allegations
Speed Darlington, known for his wild and unfiltered online persona, denied any wrongdoing and labeled the clip as a “clout-chasing” attempt that backfired.
“I am a law-abiding citizen and a role model to the youth,” he said.
“I will never engage in or even contemplate such immoral behaviour.”
He expressed regret over the misinterpretation of the video and stated he remains committed to helping shape moral values among the youth.
NAPTIP Summons Still Stands
Despite the apology, NAPTIP is expected to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Speed Darlington confirmed he will cooperate fully and appear before NAPTIP on June 26, stating:
“If the agency requires further clarification, I will make myself available on June 26.”
