Stop Calling My Child Duduke – Simi Warns Fans

Popular Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, professionally known as Simi, has appealed to the public to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”
The award-winning artist made this known during a recent conversation with media personality VJ Adams. Simi explained that although she released the hit song Duduke in 2020 to celebrate her unborn child, the word itself has no particular meaning and was never intended to be used as a nickname.
According to Simi, Duduke is simply an onomatopoeic expression that represents the sound of a heartbeat, describing how her heart “beats like a drum” in anticipation of motherhood.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat—duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she explained.
Simi added that while she doesn’t appreciate the nickname, she understands that it often comes from a place of affection and does not take offense.
“Stop calling my child Duduke. But you know what? I get it. It’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she said.
Simi and her husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter Adejare in May 2020.
