Tragedy struck on Saturday in Kano State as a military-grade explosive detonated, killing five people and injuring fifteen others.

According to Daily Post on 21st June 2025, the explosion occurred at a Scrap Collection Company located along the Eastern Bypass in Kano Metropolis.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, revealed that the blast was caused by a military model explosive device. He disclosed that the vehicle carrying the bomb had originated from Yobe State.

Speaking to journalists, CP Bakori said he received a distress call and immediately moved to the scene of the explosion. Upon arrival, he confirmed it was indeed a high-grade military device that had gone off, causing severe casualties.

“It was a Military Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD), a military model bomb. Fifteen people sustained injuries and were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” he stated.

At the hospital, medical personnel confirmed the death of five individuals, while ten others are currently receiving treatment.

The Police Commissioner emphasized that preliminary investigations have traced the origin of the truck transporting the bomb to Yobe State. However, he maintained that the case is still under active investigation.

CP Bakori assured the public that further details will be made available as the investigation progresses, and pledged the full cooperation of the Kano State Police Command in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The explosion has sparked fear among residents and raised fresh concerns about the transportation of dangerous materials across state lines. Security operatives have since cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal experts are conducting further checks to ensure public safety.
