Lady Buried in Shallow Grave by Young Man She Met on Social Media

Tragedy in Benin: Young Lady Buried in Shallow Grave After Meeting Social Media Friend
What started as an innocent online chat ended in a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken an entire community.
According to a NewsVista reporter, a young lady identified as Osaro Festus lost her life after visiting a man she had met on social media. The shocking incident took place in Benin City, Edo State, and it has since raised serious concerns about the dangers of trusting strangers online.
Osaro reportedly left her parentsâ home on April 20, 2025, in the company of a female friend. Before heading out to see the young man, who was later identified as Joshua, she had the foresight to send her friend his photoâjust in case something went wrong. That single action later played a crucial role in helping investigators piece the puzzle together.
When Osaro didnât return home and her phone went completely off, her worried family quickly alerted the police. Days turned into weeks, and the silence only grew louder. Her mother, devastated and desperate, continued to push for answers as the search intensified.
Nearly two months later, a breakthrough came. Police operatives tracked down and arrested Joshua at his residence. During interrogation, he confessed that Osaro had indeed visited him. According to him, they had a heated argument, and she tragically died after allegedly hitting her head during the altercation.
What he did next shocked even the most experienced officers.
Instead of contacting authorities or seeking help, Joshua used a wheelbarrow to move Osaroâs lifeless body into a nearby bush and buried her in a shallow graveâjust a few metres from his home.
On June 20, 2025, he led police officers to the exact spot where he had buried her. Her remains were exhumed in the presence of law enforcement, and her phone was also recovered from the suspect.
The news has triggered a wave of emotion across social media. Many are grieving, angry, and asking the same painful question: How can a simple search for friendship end in such horror?
The Edo State Police Command, through spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest. He assured that Joshua will be formally charged to court once the investigation is complete.
This heartbreaking case serves as a harsh reminder of the potential risks lurking behind our screens. While social media has made it easier to connect, it has also opened doors for predators.
As a word of caution from NewsVista: always share your plans with trusted friends or family. Never visit someone youâve just met online without proper safety steps. And above all, trust your instinctsâyour safety comes first.
