We Thought Our Son Was in School — But He Was Living With a Married Woman in Abuja
What do you do when the child you raised, loved, and sacrificed for chooses a life you never imagined — one filled with lies, betrayal, and scandal?
This is the painful reality for a Nigerian couple whose 22-year-old son, Michael, disappeared into a double life that none of them saw coming.
According to a shocking report obtained by NewsVista, the parents had believed for two years that their only son was studying Engineering at a reputable university. They sent him pocket money, paid his rent, and prayed earnestly during each exam season.
But it was all a well-orchestrated lie.
“It all came crashing down when my cousin, who lives in Abuja, called us out of the blue. He said, ‘I just saw Michael at Jabi Mall… holding hands with a woman old enough to be his mother,’” the mother painfully recounted.
At first, they thought it was a joke — until the cousin sent photos. There was Michael: relaxed, smiling, carrying shopping bags, and clearly very comfortable. The woman beside him? Well-dressed, well-aged, and clearly wearing a wedding ring.
Shocked and heartbroken, the parents boarded a bus to Abuja.
After two days of tracking leads and asking questions, they located him in a gated mini-estate in Gwarimpa — not a university hostel. Their son had been living with the married woman, driving her car, and enjoying a lifestyle far removed from school lectures and hostel struggles.
But what hurt the most was his response.
“He looked us in the eye and said, ‘She takes care of me better than you people ever did. I’m not coming back,’” the mother told NewsVista, barely holding back tears.
The woman, estimated to be in her mid-40s, told them her husband lives abroad and she “deserves happiness” — as if their son’s future was hers to borrow.
Now, the family is shattered.
The father refuses to speak about the situation. The mother cries herself to sleep. Relatives are whispering. The shame is deep.
“We raised him for 22 years. We did our best. We gave up so much. Only for a married woman to take him in like a project. I don’t even know how to explain it to people anymore,” she said.
This heart-wrenching story raises troubling questions about parental trust, youth pressure, and emotional manipulation in modern relationships.
Did Michael fall victim to someone’s loneliness… or did he knowingly choose comfort over character?
Whatever the answer is, the damage has already been done — and a family is left in pieces.
