After injecting us, they took us to an uncompleted building, but soldiers were in search of them–Man
In a story that continues to stir public concern, Wisdom Amedu, a farmer from Ekpoma, Edo State, has opened up about the disturbing ordeal he and his family endured in the hands of a violent kidnapping gang earlier this year.
According to a NewsVista investigation, Amedu, along with his pregnant wife and their driver, was abducted in March 2025 by a group of armed men—one of whom was reportedly dressed like a soldier. The attack was swift and calculated. The intruders stormed Amedu’s residence, seizing two vehicles and immediately beginning a campaign of fear and extortion.
Once in captivity, the trauma intensified. Amedu recalled that the gang used Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines to siphon funds directly from their bank accounts while issuing chilling threats. But the most frightening part, he said, was when the kidnappers injected him, his wife, and the driver with unknown substances.
“It felt like they wanted to weaken us — maybe even control us,” he said. “After the injections, we could barely move or resist.”
The gang didn’t stop there. Sensing that security forces were tracking them, they relocated their captives from the forest to an uncompleted building deep in a more remote area.
“After injecting us, they took us to an uncompleted building where they kept us. By that time, thankfully, the soldiers were already searching for them,” Amedu told NewsVista.
The breakthrough came just in time. Nigerian military personnel raided the hideout, freeing Amedu and his family from the horrifying situation. Although most of the kidnappers were captured, the suspect dressed in military attire reportedly escaped, raising serious questions about the infiltration of criminal elements into the armed forces.
Now back home, Amedu and his wife are physically safe—but far from at peace. The trauma lingers, and they live with a constant sense of caution and fear. “We can’t help but wonder if they’ll come back. We’re still scared,” he shared.
The incident has sparked widespread debate over the growing insecurity in Nigeria’s rural communities and the disturbing possibility that some criminal groups may be aided by people in uniform.
