“It’s Over Nothing!” — Trump Slams Netanyahu Trial, Backs Israel PM Amid Iran Ceasefire
According to a NewsVista reporter, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has issued a strong defense of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, dismissing the legal proceedings against him as baseless and politically motivated. The former U.S. president’s comments come just days after a fragile ceasefire was brokered between Israel and Iran, temporarily easing tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement shared via his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Netanyahu for his leadership during the recent conflict with Iran, portraying him as a critical ally in efforts to neutralize nuclear threats in the region. “He is a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring great success in getting rid of the dangerous nuclear threat in Iran,” Trump said.
The former president went further, suggesting that the ongoing trial could seriously undermine Netanyahu’s ability to lead during a pivotal time for both Israel’s internal security and international diplomacy. With sensitive negotiations underway—including talks to free hostages reportedly held by Hamas—Trump argued that Netanyahu’s time and focus are too valuable to be wasted in court.
“How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a courtroom all day long over NOTHING — cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, etc.?” Trump asked rhetorically, taking aim at what he views as trivial charges.
Drawing a parallel to his own legal troubles, Trump described Netanyahu’s trial as a political hit job designed to weaken leadership and destabilize key democratic institutions. He warned that such courtroom distractions could have real-world consequences, especially at a moment when Israel needs clear-headed leadership to manage its fragile truce with Iran and ongoing security challenges with Hamas.
Trump also reminded Israel of the substantial support it receives from the United States—financial, military, and diplomatic—and hinted that this support comes with expectations. He urged Israeli institutions to consider the broader national interest when determining the course of the trial.
Framing his remarks as more than just personal opinion, Trump issued a direct call to drop the charges, insisting that Israel cannot afford to have its leader sidelined by what he sees as politically charged legal drama. “Israel needs its Prime Minister focused on national security—not tied up in court over nonsense,” he concluded.
As tensions remain high in the region and the ceasefire hangs in the balance, Trump’s intervention has added a new layer of political pressure to the already controversial trial, reigniting debate over leadership, justice, and diplomacy in Israel’s turbulent political landscape.
