I Told Him I’m A Very Poor Person, So Tinubu Spent All The Money To Make Me Gov. I’m Not Rich–Chief Bisi Akande
In a revealing interview, former Osun State Governor and ex-APC Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, has stirred public reaction with a bold claim about his financial status.
According to a NewsVista reporter, Akande described himself as a “very poor person” despite his long years in top political positions. Speaking during an interview on Splash FM, he disclosed that President Bola Tinubu fully funded his gubernatorial campaign. “It was Tinubu who spent all the money that made me governor. I didn’t spend one kobo,” he stated.
Akande further explained that he had no personal funds at the time and openly told Tinubu, “I’m a very poor person.” In return, Tinubu reportedly took full responsibility for the campaign expenses.
When asked if his financial condition has changed over the years, the elder statesman remained firm. “I’m not rich,” he said. “I struggle. I’m still not rich.”
Akande’s statement challenges public assumptions that political officeholders in Nigeria automatically become wealthy. His candid remarks raise questions—and perhaps curiosity—about the true nature of money, power, and integrity in Nigerian politics.
