Lokoja: Two People Managed to Escape on The First Day, And One More Escaped on The Third Day– Victim

According to a NewsVista report, Edafe Ofoluwa, one of the victims of a recent kidnapping near Lokoja, has shared a harrowing account of his time in captivity—a week marked by fear, torture, and fading hope.

Ofoluwa recalled how, on the very first day, two captives risked it all and escaped into the thick forest. Their daring move triggered panic among the kidnappers, who responded by tightening security and unleashing even harsher punishments on those who remained. “They became more brutal after that,” Edafe said.

By the third day, another victim managed to flee. That second escape only fueled the captors’ paranoia. What followed was an even more intense wave of violence: beatings, threats, and constant movement to confuse and wear down the hostages. “I reached a point where I believed I wouldn’t make it out alive,” Edafe recounted.

Then came a small shift—his family contacted the kidnappers to say they had raised ₦4 million. Immediately, the torture stopped. No more beatings. Fewer threats. But it wasn’t over. “They said the money wasn’t enough and kept demanding more,” Edafe explained.

Despite the change in treatment, the psychological torment continued. His fate now rested on whether the kidnappers would accept the ransom—or return to violence if negotiations failed.

For Edafe, and others still stuck in Nigeria’s deepening kidnapping crisis, survival comes at a price—and sometimes, even that isn’t enough.
