Tragedy as Sex Worker Dies Over N15,000 Refund For Not Satisfying Customer
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the Cathedral area of Akure, Ondo State, when a disagreement between a sex worker and her customer escalated fatally. According to a NewsVista reporter, the dispute reportedly started over a ₦15,000 refund — a payment the man demanded back after expressing dissatisfaction with the encounter.
Witnesses at the scene revealed that the man claimed he had not been “satisfied” and accused the woman of withdrawing from the act midway due to weakness. When she refused to issue a refund, a heated argument broke out, drawing the attention of the brothel manager and other occupants of the lodge.
The tension didn’t end there. The male customer, after leaving the premises, allegedly returned with a group of unidentified men believed to be his associates. According to reports, they attempted to forcibly retrieve the money from the woman, resulting in further chaos.
As the confrontation spiraled, the sex worker’s condition worsened. She was first taken to a nearby private hospital in Lafe before being rushed to the police hospital in Akure. Sadly, she was confirmed dead on arrival.
The brothel manager immediately alerted the authorities, prompting a rapid response from the ‘A’ Division of the Ondo State Police Command. Upon arrival, officers arrested three individuals linked to the incident, while two other suspects managed to flee the scene.
Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the arrests and disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. The identities of those involved have been withheld pending further inquiries, and the deceased’s body has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Olayinka assured the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects still at large.
This heartbreaking incident adds to a growing number of suspicious deaths occurring in hotels and brothels across the country — many of which involve violence, unresolved disputes, or a lack of swift medical intervention.
In a related development reported by NewsVista, the Lagos State Police Command is also investigating two separate cases involving sudden deaths in hotels. One involved the mysterious death of Inspector Haruna Mohammed in a hotel room in Ogun State, while another case saw a man fleeing after a woman died during a short stay at a hotel in Lagos.
As investigations unfold, authorities are urging brothel and hotel operators to report disputes early, install adequate surveillance systems, and maintain strong coordination with law enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
