Alleged Yahoo Boy Caught Inside FCMB Bank Ceiling in Shocking Attempt to Hack System Overnight

According to a NewsVista report, drama unfolded at the FCMB branch in Lagos’ Secretariat area after a suspected internet fraudster — commonly called a “Yahoo boy” — was caught hiding inside the bank’s ceiling following a failed overnight hacking attempt.

Sources say the suspect posed as a regular customer during banking hours, then quietly locked himself inside the restroom and climbed into the ceiling. After the bank closed, he allegedly came down and attempted to breach the bank’s internal computer systems. But by morning, staff noticed something was off — an office door was locked from the inside.

Security was alerted, and upon forcing the door open, they found tampered systems and a suspicious prompt on one computer screen. A full sweep of the premises led to the shocking discovery: the suspect, exhausted and disoriented, was hiding behind a server cabinet.

In viral videos shared online, the young man was seen begging for mercy and admitting he acted alone. The incident sparked public outrage and concern, with many questioning how internal surveillance didn’t detect him hiding overnight.

Experts warn the case highlights a growing threat—where cybercriminals combine physical intrusion with digital attacks. FCMB is yet to issue an official statement, but authorities say the case may be transferred to the EFCC for full cybercrime investigation.

Social media has exploded with reactions using hashtags like #BankCeilingYahooBoy and #FCMBHack, as Nigerians weigh in on what some called “a scene straight out of a movie.”
