Ex-AGF, Malami dumps APC, joins ADC
According to a NewsVista report, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has officially parted ways with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a bold political move on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, Malami announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing national interest and the urgent need to reverse Nigeria’s decline.
Malami, a political heavyweight from Kebbi State, said his exit from the APC was not driven by bitterness or ambition but by deep concern for the suffering of everyday Nigerians.
In a powerful statement, Malami didn’t hold back: “Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes. Our economy is in shambles. Young people are hopeless. Governance has been abandoned.”
He accused the current government of prioritizing politics over people’s lives, claiming that decisions are now based on loyalty instead of national interest.
His decision comes amid growing momentum behind a new coalition built around the ADC, which includes other opposition figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, all seemingly preparing for a major 2027 showdown against the APC.
Malami said he’s joining the ADC because it represents justice, competence, inclusion, and a chance to rebuild Nigeria. He also reassured the people of Kebbi State that he remains their “son and servant,” vowing to amplify their voices on a national level.
As political realignments intensify, Malami’s defection is seen as a significant boost for the emerging coalition — and a warning signal for the ruling party.
