Over 300 Killed in Gaza Within 48 Hours as Ceasefire Talks Hang in the Balance

According to a NewsVista reporter, more than 300 people have been killed in Gaza within just two days as Israel intensifies its military assault across the war-ravaged region. Authorities in Gaza say dozens of strikes targeted schools, markets, shelters, and food lines — leaving civilians terrified and hungry.

Since Thursday morning alone, at least 73 more lives were lost — including 33 people reportedly shot while trying to collect food at aid centres run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is said to be supported by both Israel and the U.S.

Medical workers told Al Jazeera that attacks hit a tent shelter in al-Mawasi and a school where families were hiding, killing 24 people in those two locations alone. One survivor said people waiting for food were suddenly shot at without warning: “They were just hoping to eat… then they saw bodies falling beside them.”

In a disturbing twist, reports from the Associated Press allege that untrained U.S. contractors guarding food centres fired live rounds and used stun grenades on desperate civilians. Human rights groups like Amnesty International and Save the Children are now calling for GHF’s immediate shutdown, saying it has turned into a death trap for starving Palestinians.

Since GHF began operations in May, over 600 people have reportedly died while trying to access food, and nearly 4,000 have been injured — many from live bullets fired near aid lines.

The total death toll in Gaza has now crossed 56,600, with over 134,000 wounded, according to the local health ministry. In contrast, around 1,139 Israelis were killed in the October 7 Hamas-led attacks that triggered the war, with over 200 still held captive.

Talks of a ceasefire are ongoing. Hamas says it is reviewing a new 60-day truce proposal but insists that peace must include a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has urged both sides to accept the terms, saying, “It’s time to stop the killing.”

Israeli leaders, for the first time, appear to be considering a halt to the fighting. However, for families in Gaza, the suffering continues. As the bombs fall and children die, many are left asking: When will the world say — enough?
