Tragedy as 70-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills Sister Over Family Land, Police React
According to a NewsVista reporter, tragedy struck Galadanchi village in Dutse LGA of Jigawa State, as a 70-year-old man, Adamu Yakubu, allegedly murdered his younger sister during a heated dispute over family land.
The victim, 45-year-old Hannatu Hashimu, was reportedly stabbed with a stick by her brother during a fierce argument over inheritance. Police say the altercation started as a verbal clash but escalated into fatal violence.
Hannatu, after storming out of the house, collapsed upon reaching her matrimonial home. She was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, but was sadly confirmed dead by doctors.
The state police spokesperson, SP Shiāisu Adam, confirmed the incident, describing it as a case of culpable homicide. The suspect is now in custody and assisting with investigations. The weapon usedāa sharpened stickāhas been recovered as evidence.
This heartbreaking case comes amid a disturbing rise in land-related family violence across the country. Just recently, a retired police officer reportedly killed three people and himself in Lagos, also over land issues.
The family of the deceased is in deep mourning, as a tragic inheritance feud has now claimed a life that should have been protected by kinship, not destroyed by it.
