83% of Nigerians Don’t Trust Tinubu’s Govt, “Lowest Level Since 2019”, Report
According to a NewsVista report, a new nationwide survey has revealed that public trust in President Bola Tinubu’s administration has dropped to its lowest level in years.
The 2025 Nigeria Social Cohesion Survey, conducted by the Africa Polling Institute (API), found that 83% of Nigerians lack trust in the federal government, while 82% said the same about the National Assembly, and 79% don’t trust the judiciary to act fairly.
Professor Bell Ihua, API’s Executive Director, revealed that 5,465 Nigerians were interviewed face-to-face across the country between January and February 2025. The survey measured key issues like trust, identity, corruption, and civic engagement — all of which scored low.
The results? Nigeria’s Social Cohesion Index stands at just 46.8%, below the 50% benchmark, signaling a fragile national unity.
According to the NewsVista team’s review of the findings, rising food prices, high transport costs, and economic struggles under the “Tinubu economy” were major reasons for public discontent. In fact, 53% of respondents say they feel disappointed in the country, while only 33% feel proud to be Nigerian.
The results come amid growing political tension. NNPP chieftain Olufemi Ajadi recently urged Nigerians to stop supporting politicians who failed to deliver on their 2023 promises. Meanwhile, Peter Obi has accused Tinubu of borrowing more money than three past presidents combined — Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari.
The API warns this is Nigeria’s weakest social trust level since 2019.
