Atiku Coalition: Mass Defection Hits PDP, APC, Other Political Parties in Borno

According to NewsVista reporters, the political landscape in Borno State is shifting dramatically as several high-profile politicians have abandoned the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other parties to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This comes after Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, dismissed claims linking him and five other governors to a secret defection plan. However, on the ground in Maiduguri, the story is different. Former PDP and APC heavyweights, including Hon. Sheriff Banki and Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa, have officially defected to the ADC—bringing along thousands of supporters and loyalists.

Banki, a youth mobiliser, stated the mass defection is a direct response to what he calls the “failure” of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, the economic hardship and rising insecurity under the APC have left many disillusioned.

Sources close to NewsVista revealed that a private dinner hosted by Mattawali Kashim Ibrahim Imam, a former governorship candidate, also served as a quiet strategy session for even more political bigwigs considering the switch.

With big names like Hon. Mohammed Umara Kumalia, Alh. Saleh Kida, and several 2023 election candidates now aligning with the ADC, the message is loud and clear: the opposition is mobilizing ahead of 2027—and Borno is fast becoming a stronghold for the new coalition.
