I Trained My Girlfriend Through School — She Got a Bank Job and Married Her Manager

A young Nigerian man has taken to social media to recount the heartbreaking story of how he supported his girlfriend through school, only for her to leave him after securing a job.

According to his emotional account, he met Cynthia when she was in her second year at the university and struggling financially. Despite earning modestly from his small business, he took on the responsibility of paying her rent, feeding her, and even covering her school fees.

“I practically turned myself into her father, boyfriend, and sponsor,” he wrote.
“I believed we were building a future together.”

After graduation, he continued to assist her until she secured a job at a top bank in Lagos — a move that should have cemented their journey together.

But things took a sharp turn.

Cynthia reportedly became distant. Calls became rare, visits stopped, and excuses became the norm. The real shock came when he discovered — through a mutual friend — that Cynthia had secretly done an introduction with her bank manager.

“I confronted her, and all she said was, ‘I can’t marry someone below my level. You helped me, but I’ve moved on,’” he said, recounting the painful moment.

Now emotionally and financially drained, the man says the experience has taught him a lifelong lesson:

“Never invest everything in someone who can forget you the moment life gets sweet.”
