2027 Election: “They Want to Overthrow Tinubu”, Presidency Cries Out
According to a report by NewsVista, the presidency has accused key opposition figures of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, made the claim on Tuesday, July 8, via a social media post. He alleged that “enemies of Nigeria’s progress” are banding together in a desperate attempt to sabotage Tinubu’s reforms and leadership.
Quoting the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Onanuga reminded Nigerians that real change doesn’t come without discomfort. He stated:
“If anybody tells you it would be easy, don’t vote for him.”
The warning comes just as the Atiku Abubakar-led coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to challenge Tinubu in 2027. The alliance reportedly includes big names like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi — all of whom are eyeing the presidency.
But critics argue the coalition may collapse under the weight of conflicting ambitions. According to Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, none of the leaders seem willing to step down for the other.
Meanwhile, political realignments continue, with prominent PDP figure Adamu Waziri dumping the party to join Atiku’s camp.
The presidency insists that Tinubu’s government remains the most focused and transformative in Nigeria’s history — and any effort to derail it, they say, is a direct threat to national progress.
