Breaking: Tinubu Gives Fresh Appointment to Ganduje
According to a NewsVista reporter, President Bola Tinubu has appointed former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the new chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) board. The appointment was announced during the inauguration of FAAN’s new board members in Abuja on Wednesday, July 9.
This comes barely two weeks after Ganduje abruptly resigned as the ruling party’s national chairman, a move that stirred speculation within political circles. Many viewed his exit as a possible strategy to allow political rival and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to cross over into the APC—a party he once helped build.
Ganduje, who assumed the APC chairmanship in August 2023, had a short and turbulent tenure marked by internal power struggles and factional divisions. His latest appointment is already being interpreted by observers as either a political compensation or a tactical repositioning.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso—now the face of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—has reportedly held private meetings with President Tinubu. His potential defection to the APC could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, especially considering his dominance in Kano during the 2023 polls.
Political watchers are also warning that the growing Atiku-led opposition coalition and internal APC rifts could threaten the ruling party’s grip on power. With Ganduje now out of party leadership but inside a federal board, eyes are on how this move fits into Tinubu’s broader 2027 strategy.
