“How Jonathan Attempted to Remove Me As Borno Governor,” Shettima Speaks, Video Trends
According to a NewsVista reporter, Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan once considered removing him as Governor of Borno State during the peak of insecurity in the North-East.
Shettima made the disclosure on Thursday, July 10, during a book launch in Abuja, where he described himself as the “most demonised person” under the Jonathan administration.
Speaking at the public presentation of OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3bn Nigeria Oil Block, written by former Attorney General Mohammed Adoke, Shettima said it took the bold intervention of Adoke, Aminu Tambuwal, and Kabiru Turaki to stop Jonathan from executing the idea.
The Vice President recounted a meeting where Jonathan floated the idea of removing him. However, then-Speaker Tambuwal reportedly told the President, “Your Excellency, you do not have the powers to remove an elected councillor.”
Jonathan later raised the same suggestion at the Federal Executive Council meeting, but Adoke firmly opposed it, calling it unconstitutional. Kabiru Turaki, another SAN in the cabinet, supported Adoke’s stance.
“That moment sealed my relationship with Adoke and Tambuwal forever,” Shettima said, praising them for standing by the law during a politically tense period.
